All those who have an interest in antique farm machinery, be sure to mark August 16 on your calendars. That is the day of the Antique Farm Machinery Show to be held behind the old F&C Bank, in the parking lot. The show is the July Sesquicentennial event for the month.
The show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and should be a fun day for all who are antique machinery enthusiasts.
According to coordinator Donald Daugherty, “We should have two to three dozen tractors there and there will also be hand tools and different farm machinery.” Demonstrations will be going on all day and coordinators will be on hand to answer any questions the public might have about the machinery.
“I feel confident we will have a good showing as I have received a lot of commitment from different collectors,” said Daugherty.
The parking lot will be blocked off Friday night, so everyone can set up their machinery on Saturday morning. There will also be a train set up to run around the parking lot for the children to take free rides in.
“We will have both antique (up to 1930) and classic tractors there,” said Daugherty. “Also on hand will be stationary engines, antique farm machinery, horse drawn equipment, and farm-related hand tools.”
There will be a canopy set up on the lot to give people information and answer questions about the show and the Chilhowee Antique Farm Machinery Collectors organization. They, along with the sesquicentennial committee, are co-sponsors of the event.
“There will be ice water available and free treats for the kids, as well as the free train rides,” said Daugherty. “We encourage anyone in the community who may have something they want to display in the show to come out and bring their items with them. People usually want to know the age of the item and who brought it, so we will tag that information on the machinery for the public.”
For more information on the show, one may contact Daugherty at 732-6690 or Gary Strate at 732-6409.
So, for a fun day of browsing and getting an education on antique machinery, or just to visit with local farmers and citizens, stop by the Antique Farm Machinery Show on August 16 and enjoy the show!

The third annual Kingsville Community Day was held at Kingsville ballpark on Saturday, July 19. The event was sponsored by the Kingsville Recreation Club and the day was filled with food, fun and friends, according to organizers.
The final T-ball games of the season kicked off the day’s activities. Players were awarded trophies following each game in recognition of their team participation.
The flag pole dedication ceremony was held at 11:30 a.m. with more than 150 people in attendance. Jessica Stever and Lauren Shull played a saxophone duet of the National Anthem as the flags were raised for the first time. Tammy Aldridge delivered the dedication speech in memory of Jerry Christian, Sr., Jeff Swanson and Nathan Bass Saunders. Aldridge shared special memories about Jerry, Jeff and Nathan which focused on this year’s theme “For the Love of Family, For the Love of the Game.” To finalize the memorial dedication, 100 balloons were released as community members watched them float away into the clouds.
Afternoon activities included baseball and softball competitions for fielding, batting, throwing and base running. Dustin Stout presented first and second place medals to competitors in each category and age division. The afternoon was also filled with some old-fashioned competitions. These athletic competitions included gunny sack races, human wheelbarrow, and a three-legged race. Face painting, tattoos, balloons, bounce house, obstacle course, frisbee toss, dunking booth and games of skill were also part of the fun provided by the recreation club.
Alumni softball and baseball games were played later in the day with a variety of ages participating on the alumni teams as they set out to prove they could still play. In the end, the final scores were closer than any of the age differences as everyone walked away a winner.
The evening ended with a spectacular firework display donated by All Star Fireworks and presented by Neil O’Hare. The display was so amazing that even if one wasn’t at the ball park, they could still hear it. It was a perfect end to a perfect day, organizers added.
The Kingsville Recreation Club thanks everyone who helped make the day a huge success. Anyone wishing to become involved with the recreation club and their projects is encouraged to contact Tammy Aldridge or Dustin Stout.

The Holden R-III School District will hold a welcome reception on Monday, August 11, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Holden High School to greet Mike Ringen as their new superintendent of schools.
The district encourages parents, staff and community members to come get acquainted with Ringen and welcome him and his wife, Merri, to the Holden community.
Dylan Riley, son of David and Debbie Riley of Holden, pitched his Warrensburg Mules baseball team to a championship in the USSSA 13 and Under World Series Baseball Tournament held recently at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, NE.
Riley gave up only one run on three hits in the title contest and it followed a no-hitter the youthful hurler threw earlier in the week-long competition. For the tournament, Riley was 4-0.
In the championship game, won by the Mules 4-1, Riley was helped out on the mound with a stingy defense as his fielders aided his cause turning four double plays. During the week, the Mules went 8-0 to bring the championship trophy back to Central Missouri. For his play in the tournament, Riley was voted the tourney’s Most Valuable Player.
The competition was stiff in the world series play, as 34 teams from five states vied for the title. The Mules were coached by David Riley, Tim Hoyer and Steve Marr.
On the year, the Mules were 43-7 and are ranked number one in the state and third nationally.
Riley will be an eighth-grader at Holden Middle School next month.
The Holden High School boys’ soccer program will kick off their inaugural season this fall with the first practice set for Monday, August 11, at 6 p.m. at the Firehawks’ Soccer complex on East Highway 58.
“All boys must have their physical in order to participate,” explained head HHS boys’ soccer coach Chris Hunt.
The Eagles will play their first game ever at Stover High School on Tuesday, September 2. The first home game will follow on Thursday, September 4 against the Lincoln Cardinals. Home games will be played on the HHS football field.
The Eagles will play a full schedule of 18 regular season games and two tournaments in 2008. They will compete in Class 1, with MSHSAA assigning them a district sometime in August.
Although soccer is new to HHS, Coach Hunt said, “Soccer is a true ‘athlete’s game’ that anyone can learn in a short time and have a good experience.”
He added, “Several of my best players at Warrensburg were kids who played other sports primarily, but were able to apply their athleticism to soccer as well.”
Speaking on the youth soccer program in Holden which has been growing every year, the coach continued, “The Holden Firehawks have done a great job building interest and getting the district to add soccer to serve their players. Holden has wonderful athletes that play other sports during the year, but are idle in the fall. We’d love to get those kids out as they contribute athletically and soccer would prepare them for their main sport.”
